Richard Kao, DDS, PhD - International Extremity Project - 2025 Bhutan Dental Team

Richard Kao, DDS, PhD, is a Clinical Professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry. With 42 years of clinical practice, he has published over 100 articles on periodontal and peri-implant diseases and risk-therapeutic management. 

Dr. Kao has been recognized by the American Academy of Periodontology with the Gold Medal for his contributions to the advancement of periodontal and dental implant health, as well as the Master Clinician Award.

Dr. Kao's personal goal for the December 2025 IEP medical mission is to raise awareness about the importance of periodontal health and diseases among the dental professionals in Bhutan. He aims to collaborate with dental health officers to enhance their efforts for dental disease surveillance and management for the people of Bhutan.
