Team Member Bio: Kim Austin

Once upon a time, Kim asked her podiatrist about a picture on his office wall. He was sitting on a gurney with a child in a cast.

Kim--also known as the Wordjanitor--has worked with the International Extremity Project since 2007. She started out writing, doing marketing, and handling patient data while the rest of the team traveled. And then Bruce Lehnert invited her to travel with the team. And she has never regretted accepting the invitation and the experiences it has provided.
Yes, it sounds dramatic, but
this photo truly changed my life.

The 2020 mission will be her sixth traveling with the team. Her first in-country experience with the team was the 2013 mission to Vietnam. Since then, she has supported the team in both Vietnam and Namibia.

During missions, she manages the patient intake process, patient records, and assists with surgical scheduling as well as documenting the team's work through the blog and social media. She also has the privilege to interact with patients and families and provide support in the operating room.

Kim is a senior marketing manager for Pure Storage in the Silicon Valley.
