Packing day!

On Tuesday, our IEP team members Jenni, Bruce, Jeff, and Lexington worked to compile all of our necessary supplies for our upcoming medical mission to Angola.

Before every mission our team members come together to organize and pack up all of the necessary medical supplies required to complete 50 or more surgeries. We choose the supplies depending on the country to which we are traveling, the types of cases we expect to see, and the local access to the supplies we will need.

We most commonly bring our own surgical instrumentation, power equipment, sterile dressings, surgical drapes and gowns, local anesthetics, sterile gloves, casting materials, sutures, and postoperative medication.

We bring supplies for 50+ procedures.

We create detailed inventory lists of the contents of each box so that we can provide a list of all materials to send to the health ministry of each country for approval. This allows us to bring our supplies through customs when we arrive at our destination.

We have to carefully pack and balance each box to ensure that nothing is damaged during our 30+ hours of transit by car, plane, vans. To add to the challenge, we need to keep each box below the 50-pound limit to be checked on our flights.

Now that we are packed, our cargo list is complete, and our one-week countdown has begun we are overcome with anticipation for this upcoming mission. We cannot wait to see put our supplies to use helping numerous patients in Angola.

Our bags are packed and we're ready to go. Boxes and suitcases in the hallway.
