Wait, don't forget the insect repellant!
Just four days until most of the team meets at San Francisco International Airport for the journey to Can Tho. Team members will fly from SFO to Taipei, where they'll have enough time to stretch and get some food. (I'd be headed directly for the dumplings and soup...) From Taipei, we'll fly to Tan Son Nhat International Airport outside of Ho Chi Minh City. After getting the team, luggage, and equipment through customs, it's into the humidity and on to the bus!
A few hours on the bus take us out of the city and south into the Mekong Delta. There's a lunch stop on the way where the new team members will have their first experience with absolutely authentic Vietnamese food. The bus is also an introduction to streets where scooters outnumber anything with more than two wheels, interesting cargo, and the scenery along the way.
Once we cross the Can Tho Bridge over the Hau River, we know we're close to our home base for the next two weeks.
Once we arrive at our hotel, it's time for everyone to unpack, rest a bit, then get some fresh air and dinner before turning in for the night. (But first, the nightly serenade from the dueling karaoke cruises that depart from the piers across the street.
And then, it's all about the mission.
