We have finished all the surgeries we had scheduled. Long days interspersed with super spicy food and chai. The two teams grew closer and closer as the week went on.
Today, Saturday, started with lectures, for which I happily moderated (and made my opinions clear!). 🙂
We then focused on examining our postoperative patients, both on the hospital ward and in the outpatient clinic. All is well.
No infections or wound healing issues. Just many gracious patient families and well-corrected deformities.
The Bhutan doctors all asked the same question of our team, "When are you coming back to help us in Bhutan?" So, it seems we have served them well.
The dental team continued with lectures, screening, and periodontal surgeries. I went to speak with Bhutan dentists and they were grateful for the training. They thought Dr. Kao was straightforward and and empathetic in his teaching approach. On the side, one of them asked me why we weren't staying for at least one month!
Tonight, we have been invited to dinner with Princess Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck, the original connection for this IEP 2025 mission. We will be happy to meet her and report our outcomes.
We have one more day left. Team dental has more lectures, surgeries, and hands-on training. The extremity team will work through the surgical equipment donation process.
